That's what Snow Leopard did. It was only installed as needed when an app needed it. But the time has come to move on. We will always be stuck with those who refuse to upgrade their software of have some favorite app that just "must be supported". That just keeps us all stuck in the past.

And if you favorite software is not updated? That's the fault of that software vendor. Blame them. Not Apple.

I understand some people have a speculative — not born out by the facts — concern that the Mac will get locked down like the iPhone/iPad. But new Mac users — the ones causing the growth in Mac sales — appear to love the concept of a safe place to buy apps.
Khürt L. These updates are probably not going to be ready when lion is released, and will most likely be expensive.

A lot of niche software companies simply do not have the money to do an upgrade like that in such a short amount of time. Also, I don't like the fact that I have to be so reliant on the app store for my software. I don't want my laptop turning into a locked down iphone or ipad.

Re: Malware on the Mac: is there cause for concern?

Bob,
If you are ever in the Princeton area, please attend one of our meetings.

Khürt L. What it looks like is there's one Trojan Horse, some people get taken in by it, and they tend to be the kind of people who rely on the Genius Bar to solve their problems.
If correlation implies causation, then clearly the way to avoid Mac malware is to avoid the Genius Bar!

Re: MAC Defender anti-virus is a “Trojan Horse”

Mari Anne,
The first sentence in the first paragraph of the article provides a link to the Intego web site where you can find more information about the trojan and how to remove it.

Khürt L. I, then, have removed it using the utilities but wondering whether my mac still get affected. Been waiting to read it on your post about how the post injected trojan act, but you only describe the pre one. So, any advice on how i can tell that my mac is still got some virus/spyware on it? Apple does not support it. If Flash is important to you, you will need to purchase some other tablet device. To my knowledge, only the Motorola Xoom supports Flash. You can read more about Flash on mobile devices from the links below:

http://technologizer.com/2011/...
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/...

Khürt L. It works in Firefox and Google Chrome. WiseStamp has a WYSIWYG signature builders. Once you have the signature looking the way you want, save as HTML as a file and follow the rest of the tutorial re: webarchive files. Let me know how things go.

Khürt L. What was strange for me was that it wouldn't appear in the signatu pane on the right side - sort of. One minute it would not be there and then after clicking between panes it would.

This must be the delay other forums were referring to. I know the code is correct since it showed up in Safari when saving it out as a webarchive file.

I'll give it another go.

The were some other suggestions about placing type before and after an image. I assuming they are suggesting HTML text since you can't combine the archive file and text entered in the signature pane.

Jeff

Re: How to create an HTML signature for Mail

Jeff, I have not experiences this problem. There was discussions about an infamous blue question mark (missing image) even knowing that a complete URL was used to access the image(s) from an external server.

Some say after sending the E-mail, the recipient does see it even if the sender doesn't.

Do you know about this problem?

jeff@jeffmunk.com

Re: My first 31 days with the iPad

Ellen, I'm really loving it. Make sure you choose your "Login" Keychain when asked where to install the certificate
2. Got to Keychains and under the "My Certificates" category, access the key from "secure.comodo.com"
3. Right click the key and then click "Get Info"
4. Under "Access Control," make sure Mail is listed under "Always allow access by these applications"
5. If it isn't listed, click the plus sign and navigate to Applications to add it
6.
